Obituary of Eugena Brown

Born on November 6, 1936, in Saint Catherine’s, Jamaica, Eugena Brown was the youngest of eight children of whom she was the last surviving. Her father was William Dawkins a farmer and her mother was Susanna Dawkins. She immigrated from Jamaica to London, England at the age of 18 or 19. She became a nurse-midwife in the late 50s. She met her husband Roy Constantine Brown and they were married in 1957. Her sons, Roy Romeo and Mark Anthony, were born in 1958 and 1963. She worked primarily as a newborn nurse and immigrated to New York City to take a job in that same capacity in the early 70s. The rest of her family joined her in the ensuing years and they settled in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. Eugena Brown worked for the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital and later the Interfaith Medical Center for over 35 years. She obtained her B.S. in nursing from Saint Joseph’s College in New York in the 1980s. After retirement, she and her husband split their time between their homes in Brooklyn and in Florida. Her husband, Roy Brown, died in 2004 and in 2009 Eugena moved to Rochester, New York to be with her son Mark, his wife Michelle, and her three grandchildren, Justin, Aleta, and Lydia. She spent the last years of her life at the Rochester Presbyterian Home and enjoyed reading her bible, listening to gospel music, and spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.
