Obituary of Herbert M. Englehardt
Herbert Maser Englehardt, age 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2020. He was born July 18, 1924 to Frank and Margaret (née Maser) Englehardt. Herb graduated from Brighton High School in 1942. He earned a degree in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1945 and a Masters of Business Administration from Cornell University in 1947. Herb married his high school sweetheart, Ann Trimby, on August 24, 1946. They were married for 73 years. Herb rejoined his beloved Annie just 11 days after her own passing.
Herb served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was an Industrial Engineer for 37 years at Eastman Kodak. Herb’s love of sports, both watching and participating, lasted throughout his life. In high school, he was on the track and basketball teams and he also played basketball in the Kodak leagues for many years. He was an avid tennis player and golfer, playing both until 90 years old. He loved fixing everything, always having a tool in his hand and working in the yard.
Herb grew up renting cottages on Conesus Lake with his parents and did the same with his family. Being with his wife, children and grandchildren gave him his proudest moments. He taught his children and many grandchildren how to swim (in the in-ground pool he built!), fish and ride bikes. Herb enjoyed many hours with his family playing games and doing puzzles. He sought to help his children and grandchildren find their own individual passions and was on the sidelines supporting all in their sporting events, school activities, graduations and weddings, always giving praise along with his huge smile.
In addition to his parents and wife, Herb was predeceased by his son Dale. Herb is survived by his son Jerry (Sandy), daughter Lynn (Larry) Beatty, daughter in-law Dawn Robinson
and eight grandchildren Joe Marra, Mike (Julie) Marra, Lucas Englehardt, Bess Englehardt (Patrick Finn), Joel (Cindy) Beatty, Emily (Ryan) Gunsalus, Susan (Will) Clark and Karen Beatty. Herb is also survived by his very cherished eight great grandchildren
Riley & Grant Marra, Quinn & Logan Beatty, Beckham, Leia & Dalton Clark, and Ember Gunsalus. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Herbert M. Englehardt to St. Mark’s & St. John’s Episcopal Church at 1245 Culver Rd, Rochester, NY 14609. A memorial service will be held for Ann and Herb at a future date.
